About Ladino (Judeo-Spanish)

Ladino, also called Judeo-Spanish, is mainly spoken by Jewish people whose ancestors lived in what we now call Spain and Portugal until their expulsion in 1492. Although it was shaped abroad, mostly in the Ottoman Empire, it retains many traits from the linguistic varieties spoken in medieval Iberia, which explains its similarity with Castilian Spanish. Today Ladino is classified as an endangered language by UNESCO and this app has been produced with the help of Ladino 21 which works to promote and document the language.
