William and Kate\u2019s guide to the local language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Bhutan, known as the \u2018Land of the Thunder Dragon\u2019, only opened up to visitors in the 1970s, which means the tour of India and Bhutan the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are going on, is a very special trip! The country is still relatively unexplored by outsiders and holds some lovely traditions, like their measure of <a href=\"https:\/\/eurotalk.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/11\/5-ways-to-be-happy-like-the-bhutanese\/\">national happiness<\/a> instead of GDP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The national language of Bhutan is Dzongkha, which we have released on <a href=\"https:\/\/utalk.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\">uTalk<\/a> just in time for the royal visit. The language stems from the old-Tibetan language and uses a Tibetan alphabet. As it\u2019s the Royals&#8217; first time in Bhutan, here are some phrases they may find useful whilst they\u2019re there!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eurotalk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ThinkstockPhotos-518123568.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5238\" style=\"margin-top: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/eurotalk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ThinkstockPhotos-518123568.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"358\" height=\"246\" data-wp-pid=\"5238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Kate and Will arrive in Bhutan on 14th April and will be welcomed by a traditional ceremony at the Buddhist monastery Thimpu Dzong. So here are some phrases in Dzongkha that they could use:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It\u2019s a pleasure to meet you &#8211; <em>Chhoe Dang Chhe Dey Ga Tro Jung Yi<\/em><br \/>\nWelcome &#8211; <em>Joen Pa Lekso<\/em><br \/>\nMonastery &#8211; <em>Goen Pa<\/em><br \/>\nDress &#8211; <em>Mo Gho<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eurotalk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ThinkstockPhotos-515777110.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5241\" style=\"margin-top: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/eurotalk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ThinkstockPhotos-515777110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" data-wp-pid=\"5241\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">They will also be meeting the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and his wife Queen Jetsun Pema. Queen Jetsun gave birth to a baby boy in February so a good word for the Royal Couple to know may be <em>alu<\/em> (baby) or <em>chhom<\/em> (gift).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">On their second day in Bhutan William and Kate\u00a0will be hiking for up to 6 hours to Paro Taktsang, which is the Tiger\u2019s Nest monastery, and will also attend a reception for British Nationals.
