Today is apparently National Limerick Day. We had no idea this was a thing, but since it is, we threw out a challenge to the EuroTalk office to write a language limerick – and we now extend that challenge to you \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n

A limerick is a five-line poem in which the first, second and fifth lines must all rhyme, as must the third and fourth. Edward Lear is probably the best known writer of limericks; here’s\u00a0one that was published in his Book of Nonsense in 1846:<\/span><\/p>\n

There was an Old Man with a beard,<\/span>
\nWho said, “It is just as I feared!<\/span>
\nTwo Owls and a Hen,<\/span>
\nFour Larks and a Wren,<\/span>
\nHave all built their nests in my beard!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Steve<\/h3>\n

A very nice geezer called Paul<\/span>
\nGot lost on the way to Nepal<\/span>
\nHe learnt some Chinese<\/span>
\nuTalk made it a breeze<\/span>
\nBut he got eaten by a tiger in Bengal<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nikolay<\/h3>\n

A bloke from the Isle of Man<\/span>
\nWas travelling all through Japan<\/span>
\nHe wanted some noodle<\/span>
\nBut ordered a strudel<\/span>
\nFor he wasn’t a languages fan<\/span><\/p>\n

Luke<\/h3>\n

There once was a man called Ray<\/span>
\nWho travelled a very long way<\/span>
\nHe thought “now I’m here,<\/span>
\nI’ll order a beer”<\/span>
\nBut Ray wasn’t quite sure what to say<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
