There are 2,500 words and phrases to learn from any language on the app &#8211; making it the most comprehensive Canadian French app on the market.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">French is the mother tongue of 20.4% of Canadians and 76.4% of Quebecers<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> \u2013 that\u2019s over seven million people. &nbsp;Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois French descends from the French brought over to Canada by the early European settlers, and is now the only official language of Quebec, and all Canadian public communication is in dual languages.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">uTalk\u2019s language producer Nat Dinham says that there are enough differences between Canadian French and French to make it worth learning as a stand alone language.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<em>We pride ourselves on bringing to life under-represented languages and Canadian French has been fascinating. The language has lived alongside English for so long that some words are heavily influenced \u2013 for example \u2018un chum\u2019 (a boyfriend), and \u2018un char\u2019 (a car), amongst other ingrained Anglicisms. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>But French Canadians are also very protective of their language and more likely to resist some modern anglicisms than in Europe \u2013 so in France you\u2019ll talk about your email, but in Quebec it will be your \u2018courriel\u2019; A stop sign will be \u2018STOP\u2019 in France but \u2018ARR\u00caT\u2019 in Quebec, and in Quebec you might go out to \u2018magasiner\u2019 (from magasin, shop), whereas in France you would &#8216;faire du shopping<\/em>\u2019\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">There are significant differences in accent and vocabulary from European French. For example, in Canada your girlfriend is your \u2018blonde\u2019 whereas in France she\u2019s your \u2018petite amie\u2019, and mealtimes are completely different in Quebec, the first meal of the day is &#8216;le d\u00e9jeuner&#8217;, which in France would refer to lunch (&#8216;le petit d\u00e9jeuner&#8217; is breakfast in France). And the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parti_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois\"> Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/a> have &#8216;le d\u00eener&#8217; at midday, whereas the French have it in the evening. Crisps are \u2018croustilles\u2019 in Quebec but \u2018chips\u2019 in France. \u2018Frette&#8217; may be used instead of \u2018froid\u2019 for \u2018cold\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The uTalk app is available for download on any device, giving away free Starter Words in Canadian French and over 130 more languages. De plus au Qu\u00e9bec les gens disent \u2018magasiner\u2019 mais en France c\u2019est \u2018faire du shopping\u2019.&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Par ailleurs on peut noter des diff\u00e9rences notables dans l\u2019utilisation des accents et du vocabulaire. Par exemple au Canada \u00ab&nbsp;Blonde&nbsp;\u00bb est une petite amie, les chips se disent \u2018croustilles\u2019, le petit-d\u00e9jeuner se dit d\u00e9jeuner et le diner se dit d\u00e9jeuner.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">L\u2019application uTalk peut se t\u00e9l\u00e9charger sur n\u2019importe quelle plateforme et offre des mots d\u2019essais gratuits en Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois et dans plus de 130 langues.
