{"id":6122,"date":"2017-10-11T16:07:36","date_gmt":"2017-10-11T16:07:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.utalk.com\/news\/?p=6122"},"modified":"2020-03-04T11:15:34","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T11:15:34","slug":"junior-language-challenge-final-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utalk.com\/news\/junior-language-challenge-final-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior Language Challenge Final 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Friday 13<sup>th<\/sup> may be unlucky for some but for one young budding linguist it could mean holding the <a href=\"https:\/\/juniorlanguagechallenge.com\/\">Junior Language Challenge<\/a> 2017 trophy high with pride and winning a trip to Africa!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A record number have taken part in the UK\u2019s only national language challenge for primary school children this year. 32 finalists from all over the UK will be competing at the final held during the Language Show in London this Friday, 1th October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The finalists were all 10 or under on the 1st of September 2017 . For one competitor, Grace, it\u2019s her third final \u2013 she\u2019s already been the star of \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channel4.com\/programmes\/child-genius\">Child Genius on Channel 4<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This year\u2019s challenge could prove to be one of the toughest yet as the language for the final is Zulu which, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/fsi\/\">Foreign Service Institute (FSI)<\/a>, is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.effectivelanguagelearning.com\/language-guide\/language-difficulty\">hardest language to learn<\/a> from English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201cZulu \u2013 or isiZulu- is one of the Bantu languages, which means it shares some characteristics with languages such as Swahili and Shona. It\u2019s one of the 11 official languages of South Africa and is a \u2018click\u2019 language: the letters c, q and x represent three different click sounds.
