Grammar &amp; Vocabulary<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re learning Quebecois French structure and grammar, you should know that it&#8217;s nearly identical to European French in things like prepositions, verbs, and syntax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The biggest difference is by far the vocabulary.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of that, we won&#8217;t be covering textbooks or classes for beginners here. Virtually any of those types of resources can be used for learning Quebecois French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <strong>the vocabulary<\/strong> in Quebecois French can be <em>so distinct<\/em> that speakers of the same languages from different countries have trouble understanding each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are two examples of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">European<\/span> vs <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Quebecois<\/span> grammar:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ma petite amie<\/span> a lou\u00e9 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">un vouture<\/span>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ma blonde<\/span> a lou\u00e9 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">un char<\/span>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">My girlfriend<\/span> rented <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a car<\/span>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em>Apr\u00e9s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">le d\u00eener<\/span>, on est all\u00e9 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">en v\u00e9lo<\/span> pour cueillir <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">des myrtilles<\/span>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Apr\u00e9s l<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">e souper<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">, on est all\u00e9 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">en bicyclette<\/span> pour cueillir <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">des bleuets<\/span><\/span>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(After <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the dinner<\/span>, we took the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">bikes<\/span> to go <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blueberry<\/span> picking.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So our biggest recommendation is that you have a systematic way to learn Quebecois French <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">vocabulary<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For grammar, you can use just about anything&#8211;but for vocabulary, you need a plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding: 1em 0em 1em 0em;\"><h3><strong>2. French Canadian Accents<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, Canadian accents are distinct (and awesome).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there isn&#8217;t just <em>one<\/em> French Canadian accent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XWd1rcN5Uc4?start=111\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n\n\n\n<p>To tackle this problem, our suggestion is to do a ton of at-home immersion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we go we&#8217;ll be suggesting a wide variety of content creators for amazing accent immersion at a variety of levels and covering a wide variety of topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while we again recommend a systematic way for learning vocabulary unique to Quebec, accent immersion is going to be key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding: 1em 0em 1em 0em;\"><h3><strong>3. Resources Available  for Learning Quebecois French<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, one of the problems you&#8217;re going to run into is the resources available for learning Quebecois French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we mentioned above, the grammar in Canadian and European Frenches are all virtually identical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But while France has a staggering population of 66 million people (the overwhelming majority of whom speak French), only 7 million Canadians speak their French dialect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you resort to European-based learning resources for much of your learning, don&#8217;t worry: you&#8217;ll be fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But using everything else on this list, you&#8217;ll be able to supplement those generic materials to craft yourself a beautiful, sing-song North American French!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding: 1em 0em 1em 0em;\"><h2>Best Resources for Learning Quebecois French<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<center><h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n4mSkdLnXqY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/h3><\/center>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"padding: 1em 0em 1em 0em;\"><h3>7. Learning Quebecois French through Yoga<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll start our list with something relaxing&#8211;<em>because language learning should never be stressful!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best part about learning beginner Quebecois French through yoga is that you&#8217;ll have a <em>ton<\/em> of visual information. Canadian Public Television<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The third beginner trick (and the #5 resource on this list) is to listen to news broadcasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only are they reading slowly off a script, but they&#8217;re often mellowing out their own accents to sound more like the international standard.
