  • Street signs in the Republic of Macedonia are usually given in both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
  • There’s a Macedonian proverb: ‘If my neighbour is happy, my own work will go easier too’.
  • The name Macedonia derives from the ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonia which in turn was named after the Greek adjective μακεδνός, makednós, for ‘tall’. From this, experts speculate that the original Macedonians were considered either ‘tall’ or ‘highlanders’.
