Learn Kinyarwanda

Kinyarwanda is one of many Bantu languages that cover a huge geographical area of sub Saharan Africa. They come from an oral tradition and uTalk has the widest range of them to learn in the market. Nouns are classified differently, for example according to whether they're an animal, plant, or human and this can change the way a sentence works. But don't worry it’s easy to pronounce!

Fun facts about Kinyarwanda

The word ejo can mean tomorrow or yesterday.

The word umuryango can mean family, organisation or door (confusingly).

When telling the time in Kinyarwanda, it's useful to know that the day starts at 6am, not at midnight. What an English speaker would call 7 o'clock is therefore said as 1 o'clock in Kinyarwanda (i.e. the first hour of the day), 8 o'clock is 2 o'clock' (the second hour) and so on.
