- The expression 'Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof' - meaning I can't understand it - literally translates as 'I only understand a train station'.
- All nouns in German start with a capital letter, even when they're in the middle of a sentence.
- There's a German phrase 'Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei' which means 'everything has an end, only the sausage has two'!
